| First Swap-O-Rama-Rama a huge success |
![]() New Zealand's first Swap-O-Rama-Rama was held on 20 February 2010 as part of the Lyttelton Summer Festival. It was a huge success. Many thanks to all the event's 40 volunteers, who sorted, sewed and screenprinted amazing creations for the more than 250 people who attended!
Swap-O-Rama-Rama is a giant clothing swap and series of do-it-yourself workshops in which a community explores reuse and creativity through the recycling of used clothing. At Swap-O-Rama-Rama consumers are taught to be creators and this transformation takes place through the local talent in the community.
Around 250 people brought their unwanted clothes to the Lyttelton Rec Centre and walked out with exciting new finds and re-made fashions. The eight Singer sewing machines were humming all day reworking garments, turning skirts to dresses and long pants to shorts – thanks to the team of talented volunteers. The Yudu screenprinting machine transformed dull cast-offs with prints from local artists. Screen printers, sorters and sewers worked frantically to keep up with demand.
