Kotare Village - public talk

 

 

PUBLIC TALK


Kotare Village is a developing Permaculture Village in Northern Hawkes Bay, you are invited to come and hear Bob Corker, from the Koanga Institute give a talk about Community Land Trusts.

NAVAL POINT CLUB - LYTTELTON


The community is being established using the Community Land Trust model of land ownership to develop a sustainable, resilient, rural settlement. As a director of the Kotare Village project, Bob will explain the legal, social and economic structures that the community is being built with and discuss how Community Land Trusts could also be used in re developments in Christchurch.

Bob will discuss the origins of Community Land Trusts in the USA, recent innovations in the UK and Scotland, their use to protect community values, and the development of economic
self-reliance in communities.

Mask parade and workshops

Calling all - the bold, the flamboyant and those simply wishing to hide behind a mask!

The annual mask parade is back this year. We are offering a chance for people to get out on the street, be fun, be ridiculous, or be magnificent. We are also looking for volunteers to control giant puppets (time bank credits available).

 

The Mask Parade

Traditionally the street party begins with the mask parade. All the local school children process in mask to the CSM Samba Band we've come to know and love. Hundreds of adults and children snake their way down Lyttelton's street. The procession is led by giant puppets, and we need at least 3 adult puppeteers and some young people to use these. Last year we had some clowns accompany the procession as well.

Join the throng: All adults and children in mask are welcome to join the parade!

Mask making for adults
Set in Juliet's studio in Lyttelton - a very sociable way to make your own mask under my guidance if you need. Several techniques offered. Small cover charge. Please contact immediately if interested. If Tuesday's not acceptable, another evening can be explored.
4 sessions - Wednesdays: May 9, 16, 23 and 30
Time: 7pm.

Family mask making workshop
A 2 hour workshop in quick mask making for adults and children alike to be held at Lyttelton Main School.
Date: Sunday 27th May
Time: 2pm
Venue: Lyttelton Main School
Cost: $10 a mask
Booking essential: Pop into the information centre or call to arrange booking 328 9093

Japanese Lantern Making Workshop
Make a fabulous Lantern to light your way as part of the parade!
Date: Sunday 27th May
Time: 10am
Venue: Lyttelton Main School
Cost: $6 per lantern

Borrow a mask
For adults who would like to get out there, but don't have the time to make their own masks. Some of us in Lyttelton have been making masks and costumes over the years, and would like to offer them on loan for the street party.
Date: Saturday 26th May
Time: 12noon - 2pm
Venue: Lyttelton Petanque Court (corner London and Canterbury sts) or at the Portal 54a Oxford st if wet.
Cost: $15 refundable deposit for borrowing a mask, numbers limited

 

Want to perform or be a puppeteer?
We need: 3 adult puppeteers to rehearse and perform with the phoenix puppet (rose firstly at The Pirates of Corsair Bay), 3 adult puppeteers to control the giant fish and volcano puppets, and up to 10 child puppeteers to go inside the giant fish puppet. No experience necessary. Also looking for street performers.
